According to NASA, 16 Psyche boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 173 miles across and 144 miles long, with a surface area spanning 64,000 square miles. Its immense size played a pivotal role in NASA's decision to pursue this mission.

Nicola Fox, NASA's associate administrator for the science mission directorate, emphasized the importance of studying 16 Psyche. 

She stated, "Psyche is by far the largest, and that's why we want to go to it. The smaller asteroids are more likely to have undergone changes due to impacts, whereas we believe the large one remains largely unchanged."
