Sriram Kumar's odyssey into the world of space science commenced during his high school years. 

While participating in the annual science competition organized by the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology department, he and his friend delved into the complex realm of space debris mitigation and removal. 

The success of their project not only boosted Sriram's confidence but also ignited a fervor to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos. 

Over time, Sriram has passionately undertaken more than 20 research projects, leaving his mark in numerous publications, propelled by an insatiable curiosity.

A Stargazer's Inspiration : 

From an early age, Sriram found himself captivated by the enchanting night sky. His journey into space research materialized during a visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation launch facility. 

Standing before the colossal structure of a rocket, he was not only awed by its physical magnitude but also inspired by the intricate scientific orchestration needed for its space journey. 

This revelation fueled his desire to contribute his skills and knowledge to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of space exploration.

Steps to Becoming a NASA Citizen Scientist : 

Becoming a NASA citizen scientist was a meticulous process for Sriram. It all began with his exploration of the NASA citizen science website, where he discovered opportunities open to individuals globally, regardless of background or nationality. 

Sriram enthusiastically shares, “My responsibilities included identifying asteroids and even having the honor of naming them. 

This experience allowed me to actively contribute to the scientific community.” To date, Sriram has discovered two provisional asteroids through his dedicated efforts.

Inspiration from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam : 

Sriram draws inspiration from the revered Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, highlighting that Kalam's legacy goes beyond intellectual prowess. 

It is embodied in his ability to transcend barriers and demonstrate that anyone can excel with the right mindset. 

Sriram deeply resonates with Kalam's kindness, dedication to nurturing young minds, and significant contributions to the field.

Current Projects and Future Aspirations : 

Sharing insights into his ongoing projects, Sriram reveals, “I am working on diverse methodologies for managing and producing components with extreme hardness and strength, specifically for advanced aerospace applications. 

This involves examining material composition and implementing innovative heat treatment techniques.” 

Despite facing consecutive failures, Sriram attributes his achievements to the unwavering support from his family and professors.

Paying It Forward :

Sriram mentors over 100 students across the state, guiding them in projects and research free of cost. 

Simultaneously, he is immersed in seven different research topics, with plans for publication by the year's end. 

His ultimate goal is to make a significant contribution to the field of space science and serve as an inspiration for millions of students and young minds to tread a similar path.
